We have received an invitation to take part in this year's 5 miles from home event.  Here is a quick summary from their website and a link to more details.

5 Miles From Home, 27 August- 31 August 2025

Looking for one great reason to get out on the water?
We’re pleased to announce that Ocean to City in Ireland, Welsh Sea Rowing and Scottish Coastal Rowing Association have joined up again to bring you a unique, international, time trial series this autumn: the Five Miles From Home Event 2025. This year the event is being hosted and run by Ocean to City in Ireland (Meitheal Mara assisted by our friends from Welsh Sea Rowing in Wales )

Rather than asking you to travel, we invite you -wherever in the world you may be- to take part in this international challenge by joining us from your home waters. Taking part is simple! Just form a crew, plot a course, cover the 5 miles (8047meters / 4.345nm) as fast or as stylishly as you can during the designated time windows, submit your times to us and join the online hooley.

Event window is 1500 GMT on the Wednesday to 1500 GMT on the Sunday

Crews are responsible for setting their own course.  The course must be 5 miles (8047 meters)  long, and the start and finish points should be in roughly the same place, so that the course is either “out and back” or “round and about”, and crews do not get an advantage by rowing exclusively down weather or down tide.

Proof of time and distance:  When submitting results to the organisers of each leg, crews must also submit proof of time, distance and category in the form of a read out from a timing app and a picture of the crew during or after completion of the challenge.  By entering, the crew agrees to these images being published by the organisers and used on social media.

Please post if you are interested in taking part. If you would like to get together and enter as a crew that's fine or just sign up and we can put crews together in the usual way.

Thank you!
