A random question for all keen sailors in our club….

Matt O’Neill
Bit of a random question for all sailors….

I’m on my RYA Power Boat 2 (PB2) course next weekend but don’t have any sailing bib trousers.
However, I do have ski salopettes….are they roughly the same thing?
And I assume I have to layer up with thermals?!

I just don’t fancy spending loads on specialist trousers etc, until I’ve passed and know I’ll get lots of use out of them.

All advice gratefully accepted
Many thanks
Matt

Matt, I've got my old pair you're welcome to borrow. I can leave in Seafox. For pb2 best with wet suit then wet gear over....googles and flippers not required. RB.

Yes, layers with an efficiently waterproof outer one. And a beanie. Also warm waterproof gloves keep your hands cosy during general driving, particularly if you are using an outboard directly, not from some sort of wheelhouse. My course years ago involved a lot of sitting about while other people practised things. Good luck!

Go wet suit with a bit of over clothing - don't need thermals

I did my PB2 with MSC I did not wear a wet suit just T shirt, waterproof jacket ,shorts and a life jacket
at the culmination of the course, when we did a round the Island at max revs.
I do not recall getting wet or cold.

I agree with James's comment.  I owned a powerboat for 5 years, sped to the IoW all the time, taking off from the water sometimes..   Only bit that got wet was face area from spray - waterproof jacket was enough.
