One of the adult swans in the boat park sadly died yesterday and one of the cygnets was taken away by the RSPCA, the assumption being that they had bird flu.
I am no expert on bird flu, but I suggest that you consider your own hygiene when in the boat park and in particular when handling / cleaning the boats; this is especially important if you have any birds at home. It is probably a good idea to bring and use anti-bacterial hand gel (I guess we should always bring / use this) and if you have been involved in cleaning the boats after a row, I would suggest that you wash you hands with soap and water in the public toilets by the Ship or one of the pub toilets before heading home / having a drink.
According to Gov.uk, we should be reporting dead wild birds on 03459 335577; you will be asked for the location, type of bird(s) and the number of birds as well as your contact details (see
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/report-dead-wild-birds). The website indicates that you should avoid handling dead birds.
Feel free to post any additional information or any inaccuracies in my post.
