    Everest Base Camp Challenge 2019

    Good morning,

    On Friday 7th June we have arranged a guest speaker night at Cosham fire station to raise funds for the firefighters charity, We have 2 speakers who are Andy Williams and Andy Meek.
    Andy Williams rowed the Atlantic in 42 days in Feb 2019, Allan Meek summitted Mt Everest in May 2017. Tickets are £15 and include a plate of chilli. There will also be a bar and raffle.
    All profits will be given to the firefighters charity.

    Brief Overview:
    On 9th November 2019 a team of 14 Firefighters from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service will trek to Everest Base Camp in Nepal and continue to Kala Pathar (Black Rock).
    Everest Base Camp is 17,600ft above sea level and Kala Pathar has an of altitude of 18,208ft.
    At this height there is less than 50% oxygen and the temperature can drop as low as -37'c.
    We will follow in the footsteps of many famous climbers and explorers such as: Sir Edmund Hillary, Tenzing Norgay and George Mallory.
    This will be the hardest challenge we have ever undertaken. High altitude will pose the team additional challenges including, sickness, confusion, dehydration and severe fatigue, to name but a few.
    The trek will take 12 days, walking an average of 9 hours each day. All money raised will be donated to The Firefighters Charity, which is close to our hearts:
