I have just attended a meeting for the weekend 24/25 & its going to be a busy but brilliant weekend.
As I have posted before I am looking for helpers for the 25th, I have had 12 volunter so far but as you can imagine hosting the day for approx 120 people we are going to need more. On the Saturday the giggers have there Regatta so are organising all the Gazebos, tents, barbecues,Urns, chairs fridges, cutlery etc which is brilliant, as that will all be there They are not going to disappear on the Sunday but RIR is for both clubs to provide a great day & its cutters turn on the Sunday. Realise lot of you are rowing but an odd hour before or after is all we are after ?? Busy times are 8 -10.30 then 12.30 -4.00 those that can't do those times but can fill in the other times will be brilliant as it all has to be covered. Please can those that have volunteered please advise on your times available so I can do a rota or we could have times when no help !! In the morning breakfast is being provided with Bacon/sausage baps tea coffee etc, then lunch is Barbecue. Plenty of tea, coffee, cake, water ,juice (All day) which monies raised from these will support the cutters club. Those that are being kind enough to make cakes please can you advise me how I can get them or if you are happy to drop them off on the Sunday morning at Langstone Gigs club. As you can imagine it is a busy weekend for me as I am there both days so any help will be a bonus. Thank you |
Good morning Bobby, I'm going to be over to Hayling early on Sunday - so will gladly help where needed until the rowing starts. Will also be bringing a couple of cakes with me on Sunday.

Excellent response Cutters... The Langstone Rowing Weekend has 3 elements: Saturday is the Gig Clubs CPGA/Jurassic Coast home regatta - an important event, with 6 visiting Clubs from the Jurassic coast and this year, for the first time - London Cornish Pilot Gig Club... They are based in Richmond and Docklands and the Richmond end are friends of ours of many years. They are attending the RHRR again this year in at least one boat... There is a lot of work that is needed to make the rowing weekend go well and it starts over at the Marina as early as Thursday 22nd June 5pm till 7pm when we all - Giggers and Rowers alike - are invited to make it to clean up the beach surrounding the North Slip removing large stones, brambles and cleaning slipway using a jet washer provided by the Marina, we need to wear old kit gardening gloves, bring shovels, yard brooms and rubble sacks, wheelbarrows. Its importation this site is clean for the Regatta and the Round Hayling Rowing Race. Then on Friday 23rd June 5pm till 7pm we need to help to erect a large catering tent on site. Also putting up signs and bunting, host incoming deliveries from club members to store
in hte Gig Clubhouse and Unit 3 the LAR space.
Saturday the Gig Club have a detailed rota for the Club members to support and run the Gig regatta... Food to be served from 8am on Saturday, a balance
required between Drinks , Cakes Sandwiches etc. We also need to meet and greet visiting crews, many of whom are only arriving on Sunday. Emily will be helping register the arrivals and we need Rowing Club members all help with meet and greet: So far it looks like we have: Langstone Cutters Rowing Cub: 4 boats (2 Galleys, Skiff and Claydon) Langstone Cutters Gig Club: 2 Gigs London Cornish Gig Club: 1 Gig Weymouth Gig Club: 1 Gig London Bridge Rowing Club: 1 Gig and 1 Skiff; ECA Gig Section: 1 Gig (possibly 2) Tudor SC: 1 Bursledon Gig; Hamble Scouts: 1 Gig, 1 Bursledon Gig Lower Thames RC; 1 Celtic Long Boat; . We may have other Gig Clubs staying over from Saturday to race the RHRR - from Portland, Poole, Swanage and Bridport - but they have not confirmed as yet. An important part of this event is safety and safety boats: as sea front can be tricky in a wind (we have a revised course of around 10 miles inside Chichester Harbour if weather makes the sea too rough around the Winner and West Pole Sands). A team of safety boats - 5 at the moment - will be supporting the racing. Crews include Colin, Paul Blick, Alan Bridle and James (Gig Club) and a boat from ECA and the IBTC. We need 2 persons in each safety boat so if you are not racing then let me know if you can help with the safety boat staffing and see the racing close up. We can use the LAR Unit 3 in the Marina for all our operations, storage of food, gazebos, cakes and other paraphernalia. All the volunteers working on Sunday will be given a white RHRR logo'd T shirt or blue Hoody to wear on the day in order to identify your role as helpers... (I would like them back at the end to wash for next year!!) There will be 100 'T' shirts for sale on the day as well - to help pay for the safety boats and other costs. The long range weather forecast looks OK... but only a forecast... lets see what we can do everyone... and have some fun... Please support Bobby, Jenny and Chris on the food stall... we get to keep the surplus for our repair fund - so its a good cause!! Mike Gilbert

Hi Bobby,
As we have visitors, I won't be available in the afternoon, but will be able to help earlier on. I've also got a cake and flapjack to contribute. Bearing in mind Mike's info in this forum thread, please note that I am leading the midweek row on the Friday morning. If there are any fetch-and-carry tasks (e.g. boat movements, supplies) that can be incorporated into the row then I am happy to try and help. Cheers Nigel. |
