Invitation to Kingston River Festival - 6th Sept - added timetable

Hi all,
We have received an invitation from Malcolm Knight to attend what looks like an amazing Festival at Kingston on Thames.

Here is an extract from the invitation document ( which is linked below ). It sounds like a perfect event to take the Galleys to!

Kingston will be marking the 1100 anniversary of the crowning of King Æthelstan in Kingston with a six month cultural celebration, a highlight of which will be the River Cultures Festival, with a day of family friendly entertainment on land and water. As part of this huge celebration, Thames Alive will be creating a flotilla of craft (both powered and unpowered) to be assembled from Hampton Court Bridge and to process to Ravens Aitand Canbury Gardens. The flotilla will act as herald for King Æthelstan and his Court to the site of his Coronation. The boat crews in this “Royal” section will be encouraged to dress in period costume, and in time honoured fashion, be armed to defend their King elect.

We need a volunteer to organise as the date clashes with Monster the Loch, and as usual we would need a tower or towers. Please post below if you are interested in taking part and say whether you can help organise, tow or cox.

Malcolm has sent the Outline Timetable for the day

Matt is organising this event for us so please contact him with any questions.

Thank you
Rachel

Hi all,
I’ve written off to the organisers to confirm we’re ok to take three big boats (2 Galleys and 1 Claydon).
If it comes back as ok, then we have a good number in 15 of us interested already. With 2 towers in both James and Chris.

I’ll start a new post on the forum nearer the time with any extra info and updates I get.
You know where I am if you’ve got any questions.

Here’s to a lovely day out!! 🥂
Cheers,
Matt

Hi Bobby and Marion,
I’m still waiting on confirmation from the organisers that we can take 3 boats to fit in the members who want to come, but I’m sure it’ll be ok.
We have few months until the event yet, so I’m sure personnel and numbers will change in between now and then, but good to get your early interest in the event.

Watch this space for more updates nearer the time!
Thanks

Hi Ann,
I’ve taken into account both yours and Sue’s interest in this trip, but at the moment that puts us with 19 rowers showing interest - 1 over capticity for 3 boats.
And for fairness, I have to do it on a first come, first served basis, as well as take into account 2 towers.

However, things may change between now and September and someone may drop out, so keep watching this space!
Thanks
Matt
