PLEASE SEE NEW UPDATED POST - AS THIS HAS NOW BEEN CANCELLED.
NEW UPDATE:
At the moment we only have 1 tower and therefore the capacity to only take 1 boat (6 rowers) to the event, as our kind volunteer tower can’t take the double trailer.
The boat we take will probably be a Claydon if the new Galley single trailer doesn’t arrive in time.
The Committee and myself will be making a final decision on crews and how to organise this to get as many of you there and rowing as possible, nearer the time.
In the meantime, if you know of any towers who wish to come along (perhaps from other clubs), that would be amazing!!
We also still need another volunteer to drive with crew to and from Kingston please.
Please watch this space for further updates nearer the time.
Thanks,
Matt
Dear all,
We recently advertised the Kingston River Festival on September 6th.
We had a great initial response of 20 rowers. However, since then we’ve had quite a few drop outs, so am posting this again to find who is genuinely interested in definitely attending the day, and asking all to re-sign up.
We are allowed to take 3 big boats to the event.
If possible I desperately need one more tower please (already have Michael and Chris W).
PLEASE NOTE:
This event is fancy dress in period costume.
As a club attending we have agreed and committed to this, so all participants MUST be in fancy dress please!! Here is an extract from the invitation document ( which is linked below ). Also attached is some more organiser info and timetable etc.
Kingston will be marking the 1100 anniversary of the crowning of King Æthelstan in Kingston with a six month cultural celebration, a highlight of which will be the River Cultures Festival, with a day of family friendly entertainment on land and water. As part of this huge celebration, Thames Alive will be creating a flotilla of craft (both powered and unpowered) to be assembled from Hampton Court Bridge and to process to Ravens Aitand Canbury Gardens. The flotilla will act as herald for King Æthelstan and his Court to the site of his Coronation. The boat crews in this “Royal” section will be encouraged to dress in period costume, and in time honoured fashion, be armed to defend their King elect.
Please re-sign up below if you are still interested in coming, so we can sort out car sharing etc.
Many thanks,
Matt
