Please acknowledge that you have seen this message by responding “Read”.
Our club keeps our membership costs low by doing all our maintenance ourselves.
Every year we overhaul one boat, this year we must sand and varnish Langstone Lady.
We have been offered a workshop in Southsea for a few weeks.
Geoff our bosun ( not Grumpy) would like a team each day from 9-1, carpooling from The Ship.
Our club supplies the tools, coffee and biscuits. We members supply the labour. No skills are needed, all will be taught.
This is like all our rows, laughter, exercise and communal recreation.
It is also a vital part of our being able to do the above all year.
We will put the boat on the trailer after the blessing of the fleet, power wash her and have her ready to tow on Monday morning.
We need you to help with this and her unloading.
So volunteer on Geoffs post for this and each day you can.
Again please acknowledge you have read this by answering “Read”
Thank you,

Hi all,
This year's Hamble River Raid is Saturday 11th May. This is a great event with lots of clubs taking part and every type of boat rowed locally will be there. In the past we have taken all our boats and lots of supporters too. Registration opens on 1st April so it would be good to have an idea of numbers before that. Entry is £30 per boat so the cost with towing and parking the trailers will be about £12 per person for rowers and free for coxes. Please post below if you are interested in taking part

Members, we need more volunteers to sand, varnish, drink coffee, laugh and get LL ready for a summer of fun.
Please sign up on Geoff’s original post “The great renovation of LL”that Rachel is coordinating.
Even if you intend to make your own way to Southsea rather than carpool from the Ship at 9am, please sign on to Geoffs post.
I know we all have busy lives and some of us are blessed with a ridiculous number of grandchildren!
But LL needs you.
It really is fun and educational and when you have helped make her beautiful you can take pride every time you see her varnish sparkling in the sunshine.
Thanking you in anticipation,
Michael

Our Annual Blessing of the Boats will take place on Sunday 24 March at 1200 (not on Easter Sunday as in previous years). It is a lovely traditional and social occasion for the Club and I would encourage as many of you as possible to come along and participate along with families and friends - and bring your singing voices and some cash for refreshments with you! Mike G will also be inviting other local clubs to bring some of their boats. A few hands turning up early at 1130ish would be appreciated to ensure that the boat park and boats are "squared away" and ready for visitors. (Cheryl and Ron - do you still have the name signs and who has the ribbons?)
Canon Tom Kennar will officiate and Ann Plater has kindly volunteered to run the refreshment stall again with help from Rachel. Please could we have lots of volunteers to make and/or bring along cakes/biscuits etc. Any monies raised will contribute to the boat maintenance costs - and we will have lots of that going on this year.

The new rowers day planned for 14 April has been a little over succesful, in parallel with people who have contacted the membership secretary and personal contacts that many rowers have made, we now have those listed below interested in coming along (around 35 people). I will be sending out instructions to the individuals, and to you memebrs who are inviting individuals along as to how we we handle this by scheduling people to come at different times on the sessions.. SO, PLEASE, NO MORE INVITATIONS TO GO OUT FOR NEW ROWERS ON 14 APRIL

We will, of course need support from LCRC members in the form of a cox and at least two experienced rowers in each boat. Thanks for those who have signed up below, more LCRC people always welcome, you can help people adjust foot settings etc from the beach if not actually rowing/coxing. Also talk to prospective members to paint a fine picture of what our club is all about.

Hi all,
Yesterday's Blessing of the Boats was a great success. Huge thanks to Tom Kennar for blessing the boats and leading the singing. Thank you to everyone who came and supported this lovely annual event. It was good to welcome Laura Jane , Slipper Spirit and Jolly B to join us.

The tea and cakes raised £133 for club funds. Thank you to everyone who baked or brought cakes and especially to Ann and Francis for making so many teas and coffees and making sure everything ran smoothly and to Lesley G who washed and dried up tirelessly. Thank you to Marilyn for decorating the boats, Mike for the use of his garden and kitchen, and Liz for organising us. I love being part of this club!

Hi all,

The Great River Race is on Saturday 24th September 2024 starting from London Docklands and rowing up to Ham House a distance of 21.6 miles (with the tide). You can enter either just for the challenge and satisfaction of taking part, or to be competitive and try to come back with silverware. This is a really great day out and if you are worried about rowing the distance, remember that we change round as we row so you row for 40 minutes, then have a break for 20 minutes. If you are currently able to row to Verner and back, and change seats in the boat in choppy conditions, then you would be able row in the GRR as there are 5 months to practice and by end August you will be confidently rowing to HISC or Ferryboat and back. Each crew will require three competent coxes.

I am posting this early because registration opens on 1st April and the number of entries is limited this year so if you would like to take part please reply to this post. The adult entry fee will be approx £100 ( £75 GRR entry plus PIN money and contribution towards the costs of towing the boats to/from London and congestion charges and cranage/towing of two boats!). Payment is not needed yet. Nearer the time we will be organising coach transport to London for the race which will cost approx £35 per person. The committee will do their best to try to accommodate everyone and will inform members of the proposed teams before finalising entries.
Hi all,
We will be running a special Sculling Sunday session for people who would like to try sculling in the club's two Teifis and Mike's Salter Skiffs Holly and 15 Seconds. This is for club members who either haven't had the chance to try sculling yet or would like to practice. Please post if you would like to come along either to help out or take part.

The honour of organising rowing activities next week falls to me.

I am mindful however that many are already giving freely of their time to transporting and refurbishing Lady and that this is our priority over the next couple of weeks. The tide means morning rows only and then the weather is iffy later in the week.

My considered view therefore is that we should all be focused on supporting Geoff next week so there will not be an excursion row this week. Those with spare time are encouraged to take advantage of the team bonding opportunity in Southsea and book a slot for sanding/varnishing/cakes. There is plenty of space on Tuesday and Thursday please post on Geoffs post if you can assist.

Kind regards

Tim

Hi all,
We have received an invitation from Paul Bennett at Emsworth Sailing Club to row round and take part in the naming of their new Celtic Longboat. The invitation is for up to 6 members, so that is a Celtic crew with passenger.
This will clash with the Saturday excursion row which will be posted nearer the time, but as the high tide is 11am and Paul would like the crew to arrive at 10.30 there is time to have a proper row beforehand. Please sign up if you would like to be part of the Celtic crew.

I have been sent this. I expect others subscribe too, but I thought it would be interesting to everyone:

Langstone Bridge – Inspection Works

1. Mariners are advised that an inspection of Langstone Bridge is required in order to determine the current state of the structure. This inspection will inform future repair works of both the bridge deck and supporting piers.

2. The survey is being conducted on behalf of Hampshire County Council and aims to commence around 20 March 2024 and are expected to take approximately ten weeks.

3. To complete the survey, two temporary pontoons shall be installed, and a scaffolding system erected on top of these to be able to safely inspect the underside of the bridge. The pontoons shall be tied to the bridge piers during works and then moved between piers as required.

4. Mariners are requested to ensure that speed and wash are kept to a minimum whilst passing the survey pontoons.

5. Navigation between Langstone and Chichester Harbours will not be affected by the inspection works.

We need to remove all 5 of our trailers from the boat park on Friday
March 15 at 9am. This is to make the site easier for the EA team to
inspect for Richard the land owner.
I would like volunteers to take a trailer home, for approximately 1
week, depending on the weather.
If you have room please post, thanks.
I can take one, that is all the room I have in my driveway.

Pair of black gloves (that looked like they had seen better days) and blue/white water bottle.
Have left both on bench next to trailers.
Morning all,
8 of us signed up, so I propose either a Galley or Celtic and a Tiefi.
Michael and Lesley have already requested the Tiefi, just need a volunteer to do it with them, or I’m happy to do it myself?! We can sort it all out when we meet.
It’s going to be a bit breezy, but we do have the lee of the island so we should be fine.
See you all there
Matt

Dear all,
I’m sure you’ll all agree that the weather is all over the place at mo. but in my view, Wednesday is currently looking the best of the bunch.

So, H/W is at 13:35 (4.96m), with current prediction of gentle(ish) breeze, lightly cloudy and 12 degrees.

I propose we all meet at the boat park at 11:30, take a nice leisurely row beyond marker. Then back to Emsworth to raid Flintstones of their hot chocolate and tea cakes, before eventually coming back home for a beverage or two in the Royal Oak.

This is our weekly leisurely row and is open to all, both new and old.
It’s especially a good chance for anyone on Mark’s recent cox’s course who wants to keep honing their new found skills without judgement or worry!

For those that do want harder race training etc, I will be posting this for a separate day later in the week.

Please all sign up in the usual way, look forward to seeing you all on the water!

Matt

A huge thank you to Mark and the Langstone Cutters for your support in getting 15 potential rowers from the Emsworth Sailing Club on the water. It was a great session today and lovely to see 5 Langstone boats on the water. Paul
tag:langstone-cutters-rc.175.s1.nabble.com,2006:post-33147Help ESC and Paul Bennett gain row experience Sunday 10 March 10:00...2024-02-23T09:54:30Z2024-03-08T06:35:28ZMark Taylor
Emsworth Sailing Club is joining the increasing number of clubs in The Harbour that own a Celtic Longboat. We have agreed to help Paul Bennett and his new rowers gain some experience by offering a two hour session for them to get hands on with oars in boats. So we need some LCRC experienced rowers and coxes to take our boats out from Langstone to show them what rowing is all about.

There are a lot of rowers coming from Emsworth and we need to get all 5 big boats on the water. As of 7 March. We have the event covered as follows
Coxes.
Mark
Frances
Paul B
Alan
Michael

We have following rowers, but need 10 experienced Langstone rowers to take out the 5 boats
Pam
Steph
Sue w
Nigel
Mike B
Dave M
Marilyn
Rachel
Vernon
We could do with one more to fill all 5 boats

If you can help out - please sign up in usual way.below

Then on 23 March at 11:00 ESC will be launching their new Celtic Longboat and would welcome the presence of LCRC at their ceremony.

Hi all - I'm row organiser for this Saturday but at the moment the weather doesn't look great. High tide is at around 10:30 but the weather forecast is suggesting rain in the morning with a moderate breeze. I'll check the forecasts tomorrow and give an update.

Cheers, Chris
