Colin McPhee, a long-standing member of the Langstone Cutters, Chichester Harbour’s senior rowing club, has been recognised at the Havant Sports Awards 2024 for his “Service to Sport” in the area. Colin, pictured rowing a Celtic longboat in Morbihan in May 2023, has been an active member of the Langstone Cutters for the past 15 years, the last four of which has seen him serve as Chair providing strong leadership and stability during the challenges faced by a small independent sports club during the pandemic. Colin represented the club on the local and national scene achieving class successes for over 60s competitors in Londons Great River race as well as a notable top three finish in an international field of over three hundred boats. As well as being a keen competitor and administrator Colin also has a very hands on approach to the maintenance and towing of club boats and trailers and gives freely of his time in helping others achieve their own personal goals. In addition to his position with the Langstone Cutters, Colin is also an active member of the Langstone Pilot Gig club where he is the Committee member with responsibility for Health and Safety. Colin is currently in training for the forthcoming World Championships in The Isle Of Scilly and is spending many winter hours on the water and in a garden shed on the rowing machine. In response to the award Colin said “Rowing is an amazing sport that offers something for everyone and to receive an award for something you love doing is amazing, the truth of the matter is that the award is recognition for all of the people on both committees that give so freely of their time for others and I accept it with pride on their behalf”
