Monster the Loch – anyone up for it? PROBABLY NOT – 2027?

It seems  that we may be too late to get a team together this year. I will aim to post again in the first qaurter of 2027 for next year's event to allow more lead time. In the meantime please comment below if your might be interested.

I'm exploring interest in putting together a Langstone Cutters crew for Monster the Loch on Saturday 19 September – a 21-mile crossing of Loch Ness that's open to all sorts of human-powered boats. It looks like a brilliant event with a fantastic atmosphere... and, being Loch Ness, the conditions can range from glorious to "character building"!

A Cutters team took part last year and, by all accounts, had an absolutely fantastic time, so it would be great to get another club crew up there.

I'm looking for 4 or 5 others who'd be interested in taking it on. The row is likely to involve 4+ hours on the water, and Loch Ness can get rough, so while this isn't meant to be an elite crew, it is a proper endurance challenge. I'd want everyone to be confident they can comfortably handle 20+ tough miles, potentially in rough water and strong winds, while still being able to enjoy the experience.

It also won't be cheap. Race entry is currently £110 per person, rising to £125 from 3 August, and there'll also be the cost of travel and a few nights' accommodation. Last year's crew also spent some time rowing on the Caledonian Canal before the event, which would be a great option again for anyone who can spare the extra time.

There's no commitment at this stage – I'm just testing the water to see if there's enough interest before we start making plans.

If you fancy a memorable long weekend, spectacular scenery, a proper rowing challenge, and perhaps even a glimpse of Nessie, post your thoughts below...
