Crew,
We are all aware that we have unique nay spectacular berthing for our fleet. If you were not aware this is generously made available to us by Richard and Sally Leslie owners of the Old Mill (this not a right and we have no legal rights), thus supporting our club.
Similarly, Mike Gilbert, who if you are not aware has been a stalwart of the club for 20 years and promoting all manner of Rowing and lives in Mill stream cottage which he generously opens up for use for our events and invites us to use his utilities when required.
We normally gather 1 -2 hours before High water and at that time especially Springs and flood warnings Richard, Sally, Mike, Jenny and Folk holidaying in the barn all need to move their motors to keep appointments etc and look for parking in the High Street. As we can appreciate a lot of the residents, trades and pub clientele are all competing for space. Our contribution to this does not help and has been noted again.
Richard has formally expressed his disappointment that he has asked us on several occasions to help them by not parking in the High Street, hence this post. I acknowledge that most of the club park in the ship or elsewhere ... Sundays the Bus stop layby has unlimited parking. Also do consider the parking spaces in Langstone Avenue (Left Turning before Langstone High Street) bear left at the end onto the Billy line and then right on the foot path and you will come out by the Boat park. A good arm swinging warm up / warm down ready to row.
Towing... again let’s keep obstructing the Mill with trailers and vehicles to a minimum.
“A long habit of not thinking a thing wrong, gives it a superficial appearance of being right, and raises at first a formidable outcry in defence of custom. But the tumult soon subsides. Time makes more converts than reason.”
― Thomas Paine
The inconvenience is a small price to pay for the privilege we all enjoy so much.
