Novice Skiff Trip Monday 19th.

RichardAsh
Hello,
I had my first row with Mike on Tuesday, and have now joined. I am interested in the smaller boats, and would appreciate some guidance from an experienced member who can join me on Monday.
H.W is 1725, 3.6 metres.
Wind SW 3mph.
Sunny and +9C.
Perfect.
My plan is to meet at 1500 and take out Lotty or Millie. Then scrape through Hayling bridge into Langstone Harbour. There, practice close manoeuvring off the oyster beds, perhaps some Mob's, or any other stuff that you think would assist, and then rest over at Bedhampton Quay (or somewhere suitable) and return.
Obviously very open to suggestions.
Thank you to whoever joins in.
Richard.
Does this go in the diary if it is confirmed?

Hi Richard. My name is Geoff, I’m the bosun for the cutters. The weather does look good and there is not much tide running. I hear you are a canoeist. The club needs water experienced members.
How ever your  post has caused some concern over your plans. The Oyster beds are out of bounds as it is a nature reserve. Your experience rowing is limited as you have only done a row with a cox. To row on your own  you need to be observed and proven you can handle a boat. Some skills are not transferable such as mob.

If you would like to discuss you aims within the club, I’m happy to talk with you.

Hello Geoff,
I was not thinking of going into the beds area, but a little way from (off) that area as it should be quiet.
My thinking was that an overboard type practice using a fender and rope would help me in boat positioning in an area with space to get it wrong. The idea was not to throw myself overboard or expect that of anyone else, what with me as a novice.
I hope I have not caused too much concern, and I fully recognise that I need to have aptitude before solo rowing, hence my post seeking such.
I will call tomorrow, but hope that this has cleared up any confusion, and will try to be clearer in any future posts.
Thank you for bringing my attention to this.
Richard.

Hi Richard,

I am down as the row organiser for the Mid-Week.
Because of the Neap conditions I have opted for Monday meeting at 15.30 at the Mill.

I don't know if this effects your plans?
