Ocean to City 2025 update

KeithY
I thought I would give an update on the Ocean to City adventure in 2025.

At the moment registration is still not open but I am told this will be in Feb. The crews in place at the moment are:

Mabel (men’s Vet crew):

Keith Young (Capt.) - Tower
Charlie B
Johnny S
Johnny G
Ig G-F
Guy S

Gladys (Mixed crew):
Martin S (Capt.) - Tower
Matt
Lesley
Marion
Dave

Sweare Deep (Ladies crew):
Karen B (Capt.)
Josie
Coleen
Sarah S
Alison

I believe ferries have been booked for Mabel and Gladys but pending a tower being found not yet for SD. Some have already reserved accommodation in Cork (and Rosslare – night before return ferry).

So we remain that the key we need to solve is to find a tower for SD. There are a couple of options out there which we hope to firm up ASAP.

More to come later. K

Thanks for the update Keith,
Fingers crossed we can get a tower for Sweare Deep.
It may be prudent to provisionally book accommodation (if we don’t have to pay on booking )as I’m guessing it will be more difficult once registration. Just wondering what accommodation others have booked so far? Sarah

Just as an update on the accommodation over this event.

Some people have already reserved spaces in Cork for nights 29th / 30th and 31st May and in Rosslare for night 1st June (as the return ferry departs at 8.00 on 2nd).

Hotels allow you to book and cancel nearer the time at no cost.

The Cork hotels booked  either The Claydon Springs Cork or The Premier Inn Cork City Centre

The Rosslare Hotel is The Farmers Kitchen or Ferryport House.

I have spoken/sent messages to team SWeare Deep regarding the possibility of going to Cork.

We have decided that as a team we do not have the skill set for safely coxing this course and therefore withdraw.

Thank you for trying to get a tower but I expect you will be relieved that one is no longer needed.

Hi Keith
It appears that Sweare Deep will not be participating in Ocean to City now as there is no tower. I also understand we don't have a full crew either or cox. I would have been more than happy to cox for half of the race.
Should  you get any cancellations in the other boats I'd love to be considered as I've always wanted to take part in Ocean to City.
Many thanks
Alison

Tks Karen.
I will need at the AGM this evening and planning to chat to everyone there before we start. There are a couple of others potentially throwing their hat in the ring who have good experience and even potentially could tow.
Entries don't open until 14th Feb so we have a couple of weeks

I'm afraid I won't be able to attend the meeting tonight as I'm still in Spain. I don't return until beginning of February.
Please keep me posted on Ocean to City re crew possibility.
Many thanks

Just a quick update on the Ocean to city. Apologies if communication has been lacking but trying to gather all the information without bombarding you with endless posts.

The registration process is still not open and is not likely to be for at least 2 weeks.

There are still a couple of people who may join both as excellent rowers, coxes and even towers.

Matt, I believe you have one potential (if you could please chase up and hopefully firm up next week or so).

Alison, I believe you mentioned Mark Brownjob (once again are you able to ask him please)?

A couple of others mentioned a renewed interest at the AGM.

So still hoping for the 3 boats to travel to this Irish adventure.

Once firmed up and registered we will be in touch re accommodation, travel plans and then it onto training.

If anybody wishes to ring me to discuss, please do on 07720 894227

Hi Keith
I don't have your contact details so apologies I have to post again.
Mark Brownjohn has just replied to me and has asked me for the exact dates that you'd be looking for a tower ?
Many thanks
