Ahoy Cutters.
As you are aware our Galleys and Teifi need maintenance to keep them seaworthy and for us to enjoy rowing them.
There has been an enormous amount of work going on the in the background this year by our Committee to ensure our boats are in best shape.
The result of this work and indeed the eventual outcome requires us as members to step up and get sanding and varnishing. The key to this being a success will be having sufficient numbers over protracted period of time, so to assist you with your decision to commit to assisting we have 3 Phases of refurbishment over period of 4 weeks starting 18th Nov.
Rachel has secured a wonderful facility at Northshore Boatyard, Itchenor. PO207AY.
It has everything we need to comfortably get all of our boats sanded and varnished. For those that have worked on previous projects in dark, cold cramped and damp sheds/garages….this is NONE of those things.
It has easy parking on site, toilets, excellent cafe and is as easy to get to and park as Southsea in my view.
Because of the location and logistics of managing this I’m asking that you commit to 6 hrs on site please. ( which is roughly the same amount of time for an excursion row day).
We have the facility for one month and we hope within that time we will be able to comfortably, complete maintenance on Sallyport, Langstone Lady and Lottie
Rachel, Geoff and myself have done a site survey and have compiled a list of materials which we will need. We will have the site and Sallyport ready for volunteers from 18th Nov.
PHASE 1 : SALLYPORT
We expect to take delivery of Sallyport on 17th Nov back from Andrew Oliver with some major works completed,(and his advice on how and what is best for us to do).
Our job will be to sand and varnish her interior. We have a team already to receive her on that day get everything ready for 18th when we would like to start.
We think we can get the sanding done in two days and then varnishing over another 3 days.
So having read this ,IF you are able to COMMIT 6hrs from 18th to 23rd Nov Please can you reply below which date you can do. I am posting this early so you can get it in the diary and hopefully avoid drop outs and “diary clashes “ nearer the time.
If I have too many volunteers for certain days I will stand you down as soon as possible.
I will post volunteer lists for this phase here by 31st Oct
Thanks for your patience and support.
