Ahoy! Southend Crew.
The hostile weather system piling in from the west is speeding up nicely and what we now need is for it to keep fizzing along and to deliver predicted wind speeds for 19.00 hours six hours earlier. There are also two plan B options. ONE: The course can be moved nearer the shore and into the lee of Two Tree Island. TWO: The course can be changed to rowing up the ( Completely SHELTERED ) creek towards Benfleet and back which would be a slightly shorter six mile course. ( The pier race is 7.5 from start to finish and about 9 overall ). I am talking to the organizers again tomorrow evening / Friday for weather and race plan updates. Updates to all on the forum and to individual email accounts Friday evening. Best Andy PS Thus far there are sixteen boats entered. Hi All We are entering a galley crew into the Southend Pier Race and will be using Langstone Lady for the day. It's a tough course, with strong tides, and makes for a very challenging two and a half hour row in open sea conditions offering little shelter other than from northerlies. We will be setting off from Langstone early sunday morning and returning the same day. HW times at Langstone enable access to boat park to load , secure, tow and return the boat the same day and evening. All coxswain MUST wear a life jacket at all times and all crew should be equipped with life jackets. A VHF radio would be very useful but is not mandatory. Entry is TEN pounds per head inclusive of Bar B Q Lunch. PLUS Dartford crossing and Fuel. We should be leaving Langstone around 08.00. Registration opens at 10.30 Briefing is at 12.00 Launch boats 12.30 onwards Row to start line = 13.15 Race start = 14.00 Our Galley Crew is: Les Goodall Andy Mac Alan Harding Jenny Myles Teri Baker Steve Woods ? Reserve= Dave Myles Best Andy TEL: 01903 -883914 or 07407 734609 |

Hi Guys
As far as i am aware, Jenny is still yet to become a grand mum and there are one or two feisty weather systems heading our way in the not to distant future. Soooooooo, I will be posting regular updates and final crew details between now and Friday, so please REGULARLY CHECK your emails. Saturday's weather is not galley friendly for the likes of the Thames estuary, or most places for that matter, so we have to cross our fingers and hope for a lull between weather systems and that things calm down a lot by sunday. Watch this space and happy GRR training everyone. Best Andy 01903 - 883914 07407 - 734609 |
