SOUTHEND PIER RACE - Super Six report

Southend Super Six.

Undeterred by Saturday's howling gale, Langstone Lady's Super six enjoyed a very fine row in the annual Southend Pier race. The hosts Lower Thames Rowing club gave us a lovely warm and friendly welcome and spoilt us rotten with a super Barb B Q. We finished ninth in a field of eighteen and were the only boat brave enough to take a passenger. Two boats had to be towed back as their respective crews struggled with a very fresh westerly headwind. Long , strong and steady was our cunning plan and if the race had been half a mile longer, we would have overhauled another five boats which only finished three minutes ahead of us.
It was Dave Myles very first race for the Cutters and he duly delivered a first rate row and emerged with a big , warm, beaming grin. Big Well done Dave. Our cheery crew were an absolute dream team and we were very happy with our course time of 59 m 52 seconds.
Thank you guys n gals.
