Friday 22nd June 7.30pm 1½hrs
Eames Farm Thorney Island The Seals in Chichester and Langstone Harbours Dear Rowers, we often see the seals, but which ones are we seeing - Harbour, Common, Atlantic or Grey?? How many are there? Where do they Haul out? Is the colony growing or shrinking? When do they moult ? What are they doing when they 'haul out'? How far do they travel - the Solent, Isle of Wight, Southampton or beyond? When do they breed and do they inter-breed? Can the Pups swim at birth? More to the point for us; how close can we or should we approach them? To find out the answers to all these questions, and many other facts you did not know, come along to a special repeat of this fascinating talk by John Arnott - a local expert on Marine mammals who has been studying our local Seals for a number of years and tracking their movements and behaviours. The talk is free for the Langstone Cutters Rowing & Langstone Pilot Gig Club Members and open to Members only; it will be held at the Conservancy Seminar Room at Eames Farm, Thorney Island, where there is free parking. A BBQ and drinks will be available (for a donation to the 'Melon' Fund) from 6.30pm -7.30pm... the Seals Talk and Q&A will run from 7.30 - 9.00pm. Donations are invited to the 'Melon' Fund - the Charity that is the Rowing Clubs' Charity of the year. Melon are building a school in Africa - where Rachel Norris went to see the work first hand - she will share some feedback with us. Space is limited so booking is essential - please contact mike@langstonerowing.co.uk. |

Thanks, Nigel. P. S. Graham - it's on the Thorney island (MOD) access road, on the same side as and a quarter of a mile beyond the Emsworth Marina entrance. |
