Hi All, who have signed up for the possibility of this challenge.
In the training we are looking to get fitter, improve our rowing and coxing, general agility, determination, sense of humour and team values. At this present time my plan is for one boat to go round the island and then propose another challenge such as row from here to Bembridge and back, which is about 25 miles. Or a similar event. Regardless of which rows we do, the aim is to raise money for the Melon charity.
The Round Island challenge will be like doing 3 river races back to back in not such pleasant water! Hence the early start on challenging our fitness and endurance.
So our first row is Sunday 4th Feb (this week!!!) please come to the open row and join in, it starts at 12 noon. We will set off around 1.30pm HW is 2.08pm at 4.9. We should have 2 boats, so will race each other to HISC, get out change boats and race back. As long as wind permits.
You need appropriate clothing, your life jacket, water and suitable energy giving snacks.
The second session will be on Sunday 18th Feb. Open row start is at 11am HW 1.02pm at 4.7. We will leave around 12.30pm.
In both rows I would encourage you to attend the open row and use as your warmup as we will be straight into strength and endurance rows.
Please sign below so I know who can attend both, one or neither of the rows. I really hope you all can make it.
Just to note that the row around the IOW will carry a significant cost due to ferries, safety boat etc.
Thanks Christine
Christine
