Teifi varnishing advice

The teifi isreadyfor varnishing, I have the varnish etc.  But need some advice on temperature to do it.  On Thursdayand Friday this week it will be 6C in the day but dropping to 2C at night, will this be OK or is it still too cold?
If it's OK can do Thursday at 11.15am and Friday at 10am.
Please can any experienced varnishes advise, I looked on the web, but didn't really help!

Hi Christine,  
It's too cold at the moment.  We do a lot of varnishing on our classic boat.  It should say on the varnish tin what temperature you need but I would have thought 10 degrees.

Hi Christine

You do not state what chemical type of Varnish you have or which company/ brand.

International Yacht Paints technical help desk is in Hedge End. They are very good and helpful.

I have just telephoned and spoken to a Martin on 01489 775062.

His advice is ' don't attempt any varnishing under 8 degrees C'.

For Polyurethane Varnishes I personally use 10 degrees C as mentioned else where.

Most UK paint companies have very good help lines. If you have the make and type you should be able to get more specific advise.

Thanks for the comments very helpful.  I asked as it didn't say on the tin.  We will wait for over 10C, or Geoff say so on his return. Thanks very much.

The other thing, which no-one has mentioned is degree of humidity in the air, the air needs to be 'dry' or the varnish may 'bloom' - white or opaque  streaks ....as it only takes a few seconds to actually paint on the varnish now the hard work of the prep is done I think we all know what the safest option is...wait for Geoff to come back ..ha ha

I'm back. I will have a look at Teffi tomorrow. The temperature is not a problem as shed is dry. It just takes a little longer to dry. We might have to put a thin coat on first. Geoff
