Tudor Row - Yesterday

T Way
Certainly a day to be remembered!

Not one of the easiest races we have had.

I would like to thank Rachel, organisers, towers, and anyone else responsible for all other works done behind the scenes.

For Steve, from Sallyport crew, thank you for stepping in to cox and making this event happen for us.

Given all the late changes, big thank you to Rachel and towers etc. It was amazing we got 4 boats there and around the full 10 mile course with those conditions.
Thank you to the Mabel team and late substitutes Greg & also Stuart who joined us from Emsworth Slipper.
Riding the Claydon could be a new Thorpe park ride!

Please give us all more info, I think this would be really good for the members who could not or have not raced yet.
Wind, waves, crews and all the fun before the race actually starts.
I am assuming all your hands were occupied with oars not cameras so words will give us the picture.
Thanks,
Michael

Well done Mabel Crew - Alan H, Chris W, Sea Wagg, & Stuart Askew (Emsworth Slipper)
Probably some of the most difficult conditions I've experienced.

Discovered Clayton's do not handle very well into strong head sea and wind (it was also wind over tide).  With no gliding capability, bow slamming into the head wave,  very tricky to cox handling keeping the boat from falling away into the seaway - which it did several times, then balancing recovery controlling oar power with virtually no rudder effect.

Quite an endurance @ 2 1/2 hours /10 miles.  Surprise afterwards when we got 2nd place prize - have to add; I never saw who was behind (- only a two horse race)!

And thank you for the organisers and towers....

For Chris and Sue I have 2nd place place rosettes to pass on....Alan & Stuart post box at the Slipper

Like a breaching whale!
So strap yourself in and enjoy the flight.....well sometimes flying at about 6 feet!
But not very fast, however the sister craft did go faster!

Thank you to all involved in organising, driving, towing and for getting us there yesterday. As has been said before, I’m amazed we did so well to get all 4 boats round in one piece. It’s a testament to show what a great club we are and how many different categories, trophies and rosettes we won and came home with as a club as a whole!

As Gladys team we had fun too, and certainly a race to remember. Thank you to Peter from DQ for stepping in at such short notice and helping us bring home the Claydon trophy - he was a great race cox in such bad conditions.

Let’s just hope the rest of this year’s races are a little calmer and less frenetic than yesterday!
(And let’s also put together some teams to give the all conquering DQ a surprise run for their money!!)

Well done to all who were there yesterday…roll on the next one!!
