Wanted... Club's Environment Ambassador

Alan Harding
Hi All,

As mentioned in the latest newsletter, we are looking for someone to be the club’s Environment Ambassador.

We are very lucky to enjoy rowing in our beautiful harbours, however to preserve their future we must take care of them. So we are proposing a new role in the club of Environment Ambassador.

Whilst this will be a new role for us, other clubs in the harbour are also having similar roles and it will be great to liaise and action with them on environmental issues in an holistic way. The Power of Many!

Protecting the environment of our wonderful harbours is also hot topic these days especially with Southern water sewerage discharges! This also has the attention of our Local MP Alan Mak, who recently had talks with Southern water CEO.

This link indicates water quality in the harbour:

The role would be to:

1. Raise the clubs awareness of Pollution in the harbours e.g. Sewerage, Plastic etc
2. Liaising with other clubs / organisations Environmental people
3. Organise our local beach and compound cleans
4. Promoting that we pickup waste objects in the water on our rows (Good MOB (Man Over Board) practice too).
5. Regularly add Environment topics to include seasonal Fishing, Wildlife, Flora etc. to Mike’s newsletter.
6. Develop the role with the committee’s approval

Alan, I would be happy to take on this role, but also happy to let someone else take it on if they do wish. I am a member of "friends of chi harbour", so have existing contacts with the conservancy and the main polluters.
