Ysbry Y Mor Celtic Longboat

Crew,

Back in September whilst waiting for the start of the Great River Race we met Roy English from Beaumaris Anglesey and swapped notes on galleys and longboats. He suggested that we may like to try one and that the Welsh Sea Rowing Association ( WSRA ) have a boat to hire for the purpose of club development. The commitee supported the idea and now we have Ysbry Y Mor (Spirt of the sea) in the boat park.

We love our Galleys , Claydons and Tefis. However it is fun to try other boats and also to look to the future for touring rows and competition. They are I believe one of the biggest classes in the GRR.

We have also been invited to race around Puffin Island in Anglesy ! Details to follow

During the AGM we heard of the intention to build a modern galley in the future and maybe both traditional wooden and GRP will be available and establish a new Solent Galley Class and racing leagues. Something the Pilot Gigs enjoy.

Costs:
The WRSA kindly waived the hire charge and we have her until February 28th possibly longer. In order to cover insurance and liabilities we have x12 named members ( mainly the commitee) who have  pledged to pay 12.00 each to cover temporary affiliation to the WRSA.

There is a possibility that we will launch her from other slips including Northney which will incur charges. To this end on behalf of the commitee we would ask for pin money of £2.00 per row minimum contribution and please could row organisers identify that it was collected form Ysbry rowers separate from the other boats.

Hope this makes sense, we have a commitee meeting next Monday and any feedback, concerns please address them to myself and I will present to the commitee.

Steve - this is brilliant - chance to row a long boat very appreciated too!     But please answer one thing for me ?  ........ my Welsh is minimal - ended up scratching my head about "spirits and mothers",  "big mothers" and gave up - so please  what exactly does "Ysbry Y  Mor "  mean?
