A possible restoration project...

Chris Partridge

Today Tom, Michael and I went to the Isle of Wight to see a Solent Galley owned by Graham in Fishbourne who many of you may remember met us on our recent row.
The boat is probably pre-War, possibly even older. It has been out of the water for decades but is in fundamentally decent condition - although several of the planks need replacing all of the ribs are intact and she has held her shape surprisingly well.
She would need floorboards, stretchers a rudder and so on as well as a set of oars.
Her name is Fancy That.
Tom and Michael are now going to prepare a detailed estimate of the time the project is likely to take and possible restoration strategies before we go to the next stage with the owners.
Do you like the idea of another Solent galley of our own? Here are some pictures.

Inspectors are work

Heard all about this yesterday from Michael - she looks lovely.
