Hi all,
This is an event we have never managed to get to but which is in a lovely location and run by a club with a Solent Galley so it would be good to go if we can. It is a two day event with a party on the Saturday evening and rowing both days so it would be best to stay overnight, which is the reason for this very early post. At the moment there is still accommodation available in Bembridge like shared Airbnb houses which would keep the cost down, but closer to the event there is never anything left. We would also have to book boat/boats onto the ferry because we can't rely on the weather being good enough to row over although we could go for a late cancellation booking in case the opportunity arises.
I'm keen to gauge interest to see if this is something that appeals to people. Please post below if you are interested in going.
Invitation below ...
Come and be part of the annual Bembridge Gig Fest - a wonderful event welcoming all types of traditional fixed-seat Gigs and Galleys to the waters around Bembridge Harbour at the eastern corner of the beautiful Isle of Wight.
Co-organised by Yarmouth Gig Rowing Club and Bembridge Harbour Authority, with on-the-water support from Brading Haven Yacht Club, racing includes sprints along the Island’s coastline and heads-style racing around the historic St Helens Fort, plus some fun, eclectic Barbarian racing thrown in for good measure if time and tide allow.
It’s a fantastic weekend, with live music, food, drink and plenty of fun and socialising with rowing clubs from across the South Coast.
You’ll find travel and accommodation information at
Gig Fest 2026 and more event details coming soon ...
If you’re a rower or supporter and would love to visit the Isle of Wight and join in the fun on and off the water, make sure the dates are in your 2026 diary now!!
Thank you!
Rachel
