CANCELLED Wed 24 Jun - full day beach excursion with ESSC - CANCELLED

Please see proposal below from ESSC.  We will need an approved row organiser to take the lead from LCRC. (I am away otherwise would take it on)  Please post below if interested and happy to take the lead.


On Wed 24 June,  subject to the conditions being dry and warm and the sort of weather where one would be happy to spend a day at the beach, the following is proposed by ESSC and we would love it if LCRC,CRACand ESC could join us.

Depart emsworth or Langstone 09.30 (2 hrs after Hw)

Row down harbour with falling tide and beach boats at East Head, arriving around 11.00

Take picnic,  spend day at beach with swimming , games etc.

Depart east head around 16.30 on rising tide back to Langstone  or Emsworth for arrival around 18.00 (being 2 hrs before hw)


Rowing distance is moderate,  but we do have the tide with us in both directions.

Del Quay and CYC have also expressed interest in joining us.

Just to reiterate,  this whole venture would depend on nice weather. The weather forcast as of 16 June for 24 June is ideal.

If interested,  please let me know.  We could all gather at NE hayling  post around 09.50 and row as a convoy.

Any Cutters up for a grand day out? Forecast looks glorious.

I will post some timings and what to take in a day or so. There is a cafe and toilets at West Wittering, a pleasant walk away.

If the numbers work I would like to bring a friend who wants to join Cutters. (She has done a bit of rowing before).  I'll watch the thread and see how many we end up with. Thx

I think we will need one or more extra rowers to make the numbers work for your friend to come along. With your friend, we are currently at the dreaded 7, which will be quite hard to make work for this row (8 or more is fine).

Hopefully, some other people will sign up.

I don’t want to be a damp squib, but…..

   with a RARE red warning for heat and uv issued by the met office, I don’t think that a full day on the beach at east head is advisable. Bearing in mind the facility with which emergency services could get get to you, it is an unfair load on them and an undue risk to the patient!

Plus….it probably will be just tooo-oooo hot to be pleasant!
I would advise advising ESSC of this as well as any other club that is likely to be involved.

Apologies but I am going to withdraw from this event. As a red head with fair skin I burn too easily to enjoy such a full day of unremitting sunshine.

ESSC have now cancelled the row due to the extreme heat forecast for Wednesday and lack of shade at East Head. They believe that a full day exposed to those temperatures would be too much.

This row is thus cancelled.

Whoops forgot to mention that although ESSC have cancelled the row, they are instead intending to drive down to Hayling Inn on the Beach for 10:30 on Wednesday for a swim, to enjoy the sand flats at low tide  and have a picnic. They are offering anyone from the Cutters to join them.
