Dear Cutters,...
Having sees the weather forcast for Sunday, it now looks cloudy for the day and so is not really appropriate to spend an entire day on the beach wrapped up in jumpers. So the day row is CANCELLED. Normal open rowing will take place at Langstone Mill at 08:30 as normal. Please ignore the details posted below:- Frances and I are duty beach masters for Sunday 28 July. The tides are at either end of the day and there is not much water. BUT, let us all take advantage of this by doing an all day excursion to EAST HEAD where we can picnic, swim and play games during the day and then return in the early evening. The timings would be as follows:- Meet at Langstone at 08:30 for anyone wishing to participate in short Sunday rows for novice rowers etc. Rest of us meet at Langstone at 09:15 to ready boats and load games and food/drink to share. Depart Langstone at 09:30 for an easy row with the falling tide to East Head. Arrive East Head approx 11:00 Spend day at East Head for swimming, barbecue, picnic, frizbie, foootie, cricket etc. Boats can be easily beached while tide drops away. We will be on the beach for around 6 hours, so ideal opportunity to bring children or grand children either by boat, or they could meet us there. Depart East Head 18:00 Easy row on the flood tide arriving Langstone around 19:30 Despite the rain at time of posting, the weather forecast for the week leading up to this date is HOT and DRY. But this is obviously all subject to weather conditions on the day, no one wants to spend a day out if it is foul, so I will update as we get closer to the weekend as to whether it is still viable if weather predictions change. If you would like to join in please post here and also please advise what you would bring in the way of food and drink to share for a picnic. Also if you have any games etc suitable for beach play, please post what you are bringing. If you wish to bring barbecue, then the disposable foil ones are best, they can be immersed in the sea afterwards to cool off and taken home as rubbish. We're probably going to need 2 foil BBQs, quantity of sausages to match people, bread, portioned cakes, your own choice of drinks, own cup, plate. We'll bring barbecue tools, bin bags, kitchen roll. Don't forget towels, swimming costumes, sun protection and plenty of water. Also ideal opportunity for GRR training. Tidal details HW 08:43 – 3.9 mtrs HW 21:18 – 4.2 mtrs. Toilets are sited on West Wittering Beach car park which is about 10 minutes walk. So, if interested, put the date in your diary, and sign up in the usual way. Weather is still looking reasonable as of Wednesday.
