Covid alert!

Mike Gilbert
Please note that one of the guest rowers on Sunday - who was in SWeare Deep - tested positive on Tuesday evening after feeling feverish. If you were around on Sunday, please take a test... the lady does not have the NHS App...

Mike,  have the guest rowers who turned up on Sunday been advised of this? Appreciate there may be a degree of confidentiality here and desire to not mention names,  but Frances was coxing aware deep for most of the day and then we socialised with many of the rowers in the pub afterwards,  so would be really helpful to know who the unfortunate person was.

An update for you.

Mike and Richard maintained a track and trace list on Sunday and a schedule of all the rowers in each boat. All the guests and members present have been advised.

I hope the NHS Test and Trace authority have been informed. I note that in the above messages there is no confirmation of this. There is a legal obligation still to do so. Without that information they cannot act to protect the public.

I am sure that I am correct in assuming that they have been informed.
I would like to make some comments based on the posted information and the planned rows posted on the forum:-
 1) people can have the virus and be infectious for between 2 to 14 days before showing symptoms. Usually they show by about day 5, when the antibody load has increased to a level reasonably likely to be detected by a LFT. ( lateral flow test)
2)   There are presently two types of SARS-COV2 test available.
2a)  If we have no symptoms of covid we use the LFT.......and remember that ( having been exposed) an initial negative test needs to be followed up approx. 5 days later with ANOTHER  negative test in order to have any certainty that you have NOT been infected by the initial contact.
2b).  If we have symptoms of SARS-COV2 then a PCR test IS required. This is a more specific test and carries with it more actions that legally need to be complied with ((even now we are FREE😳)).
3)    I note that there are at least 3 people who attended both the Sunday and Monday rowing events and who may have been in close contact with the covid positive person. The Monday rowers mingled, indoors and out, and so may have been in "close contact" with just about everyone in the group.
On that basis,I for one will be watching out for any signs of covid that I may develop in the next few days, and I have taken an (initial) precautionary LFT which thankfully was negative. I have reported that negative test to Track and Trace on their website,
because EVEN NEGATIVE TESTS are positively useful for T&T to build up information on the spread of the disease.
In about 5 days time I shall take another LFTest and, hopefully, that will also be negative.
4)  Wouldn't it have been so much easier if everyone had used the QR code T&T app.  !!!
We would only have had to worry about all the possible connections ( and forego the isolation procedures) if we had been directly contacted by T&T  !
5)  If you are interested, the current link to the relevant government restrictions and guidelines is here:-

 https://www.gov.uk/guidance/nhs-test-and-trace-how-it-works?priority-taxon=774cee22-d896-44c1-a611-e3109cce8eae

6)  To avoid unnecessary doubt and worry of others in the club, it can be very useful if members concerned can post their current position.
