I have been asked if there is any interest in the local rowers putting together a team to race in the Chichester Rotary Priory Branch Dragon Boat races in the Chichester Basin and Canal in June.. It raises money which is shared between Rotary Club Charities and Cancerwise which help with some of the organisation. Cancerwise, Basin Road, Chichester, is a free walk-in support group for cancer sufferers.
The Rotary hire the Dragon boats from a company who organise the actual racing and supply the helmsman. There are three heats of 200 metre 'fast and furious' races lasting about 1 minute 10 secs, followed by semi-finals, finals and prize giving. The team comprises 16 paddlers, a drummer and a couple of reserves so the team can be interchanged. Each team has its own tent and there is a catering tent with Dragon Burgers, etc, available in the hospitality area. The boat charter cost is £495, and each paddler is encouraged to find sponsorship! So if 16 come forward it will cost us £31 each... It a fun day out and if we can cover the Basin in 'Cutters Blue' it would be good...
It is a highly enjoyable day and helps to raise funds for very good causes.
Further details can be found on www.chichesterdragonboats.org.uk and where we can register to give notice of taking part.
Let me know if interested...
