Five Miles from Home crews - Saturday May 8th

Hi all,
It was brilliant to have such an enthusiastic response to the 5 mile challenge! In all 28 people have signed up to row and we have 5 volunteer coxes so far, so that means we can enter 7 crews. The plan is to do the races together to make the whole thing more fun! Saturday is probably the best day as there is an 11am high tide but we may have to be flexible depending on the weather.

Here are the crews. I will be emailing the captains of each to explain how to register your boat as this has to be done by a member of the crew.

Race 1
Sweare Deep     Gladys                      Sallyport                  Langstone Lady
Cox : Rachel      Cox: Geoff                Cox: Dee                  Cox: Chris P
Captain: Colin    Captain: Mark           Captain: Alison B      Captain: Martin S
Phil P                James Griffen            Vernon                    Tom
Tim                   John Child                 Lynn Murray            Marilyn
Alan H               Peter Read                Chris Murray            Bobby

Race 2
Sallyport                   Langstone Lady         Sweare Deep
Cox: Dee                   Cox: Alan                 Cox:  Marilyn

Any chance we could give Gladys's bottom a scrub on Thursday Geoff ?
if you are rowing then . I could bring a stiff brush and some elbow grease
if that would help
We might get an extra half knot out of her !

I think Gladys is at Colin's with a freshly scrubbed bottom but I could be wrong!

James / Rachel / Geoff,
Gladys' bottom was scrubbed when she came out of the water last. Further scrubbing will just unnecessarily remove antifouling and expose the (rougher) bottom surface of the grp.
You would do more to improve her performance by ensuring the inside of the boat has been pumped out and all the rubble in the bilges removed!!!   Last time I did this (more than a year ago) I removed more than 5 kilos of solid material!
She was in the boat park last I saw her!

Rachel,
I do not wish to opt-out but....I have a prior appointment with Apis  Mellifera on Saturday 8th, so either Friday or Sunday would be better for me. It may be that the weather dictates a change in day anyway, so you could swap me in or out with Mark depending on the day of the actual row.

Have registered Gladys's crew for this event. Was asked to describe the crew. Geoff Shilling (cox), Mark Taylor (capt) , James Griffin, Peter Read, John Child, so I used the following, which I think is fairly acurate:-

One of the best looking and appealing teams on the South Coast. Every single member is considered an Adonis by the hordes of fans who worship this team..

I am afraid I was less flattering with Langstone Lady (but ever so slightly more realistic)

'Sallyport Superstars' are now registered for the race - "An enthusiastic team of rowers with more than 300 years of combined life experience, and a more modest 30+ years of rowing experience. Still keen to make their mark". I think we might need to get training!!!

Rachel and Mark,
Very sorry but I will not be available for the w/end 7/8/9 May. I apologise for screwing up your organisation Rachel, but something has come up outside of my control.
