For those of you with an interest in the history of Emsworth -Fri 20th March
This post was updated on .
Some of our rowers have in the past expressed an interest in the history of Emsworth.
They may be interested to know that a long-term resident of Emsworth is giving a talk entitled
"History and memories of the Slipper area"
at 8pm on this Friday (doors open at 7-30). Venue - The Pastoral Centre, Emsworth Square.
[-sometimes called St. Peter's Square. The Pastoral Centre is at the top end of South Street,
opposite Heidi's Patisserie, and has 2 post boxes outside it.]
The mud "Slypes" in and around Emsworth gave rise to the present day names of the Eastern mill-pond - hence "Slipper Mill Pond" -, and one of the sailing clubs ("The Emsworth Slipper Sailing Club").
The Slipper Mill Pond Preservation Association is presenting this talk and are asking for a donation of £3 at the door, but that should be offset slightly by the prospect of an after-talk drink!
I shall be going by car and will have a space, or two, should anyone wish for a lift to and from Langstone.
