The Great River Race is on Saturday 16th September 2023 starting from London Docklands and rowing up to Ham House a distance of 21.6 miles (with the tide). You can enter either just for the fun and satisfaction of taking part or to be competitive and try to come back with silverware. Usually our supervets’ team (over 60’s) comes back with silverware as have our ladies team and our under 16’s in the past. This is a really fun day out and if you are worried about rowing the distance, remember that we change round as we row so you row for 40 minutes, then have a break for 20 minutes. If you are currently able to row to Verner and back, then you would be able row the distance in the GRR as there are 4 months to practice and by end August you will be confidently rowing to HISC or Ferryboat and back.
Therefore if you would like to take part in this year’s GRR, please reply to this post by Sunday 14th May, stating your boat preference in order (e.g. galley, claydon, celtic longboat or teifi – giving 1st and 2 preference) Please also include your date of birth in your reply as there are age categories too ( adult, over 40’s and over 60’s). The adult entry fee is £87 and includes PIN money and contribution towards the costs of towing the boats to/from London. Payment is not needed yet but will be needed by soon after 14 May, but you will be notified when. Nearer the time we will be organising coach transport to London for the race which will cost aprox £35 per person. The committee will do their best to try to accommodate everyone’s wishes and will inform members of the proposed teams before finalising entries. Entries received after 14th May will be allocated where there are places remaining rather than by your preference choice
Yes please! I'm up for being competitive. I'm afraid I don't know the types of boats well enough to state any preference - happy to be allocated. DOB - 21/3/74. Many thanks. Heather Green.
Hi Richard, I am a newbie but would definitely be interested in being involved and competitively if there is a place for me. DOB 7/10/1958. I class myself as relatively fit and feel after some more rows would be able to go the distance. Not sure what boat so would be happy to be put wherever if I can be accommodated. Jo
Yes please for me.
Would like to be part of super vet team once again after last years success. Enjoyed the Claydon experience if that is available. DOB 3/7/59.
