Hi all,
This year's Hamble River Raid is on Saturday 16th May. This is a great event with lots of clubs taking part and every type of boat rowed locally will be there. In the past we have taken all our boats and lots of supporters too. Registration has opened so it would be good to have an idea of numbers soon please. Entry is £30 per boat so the cost with towing and parking the trailers will be about £12 per person for rowers and free for coxes. This event relies on us having enough volunteers to tow and cox all the boats as it tends to be very popular. Please post below if you are interested in taking part and say whether you would be able to tow or cox.
Here is the invitation from the organisers...
This great event has been going for almost 20 years. Last year there were 40 rowing boats taking part. 13 Bursledon Gigs, 9 Cornish Pilot Gigs, 6 Celtic Longboats, 3 Solent Galleys and 10 others. A larger fleet is expected this year. Details, including entry forms and a course map can be found at
http://www.hambleriverraid.org://Until very recently the times on the website were wrong. Now corrected. Registration will, now, be 0830 to 1000 with first start at 1100-ish, just before High Water.
The Raid is a processional, timed event from Hamble to Bursledon and back. A row of approximately 45 minutes. There are some technical and Safety challenges in the River and all Coxes must attend the Competitor's Briefing. After the row there will be mingling at the bar and hog roast, and a Trophy ceremony when results are ready.
