Dear All
We are in need of three people to row or cox a Galley or a Gig at this event. Ideally you could join us at the Mill at 2pm but if you are time restricted then 2.30pm at the Ferry Point would be great. We will be returning to the Ferry Point by 4.45 - 5pm. Can thiose that have already posted please confirm on here that they are still intending to attend and also where they will be starting from? Cheers The current plan is to meet at Northney or the Mill at about 1330 (mill around a bit) to load and tow a Galley and Shearwater to the Ferrypoint (launch 1430 ish) and row to Hayling Seafront and to then standby in the vicinity of the Inn on the Beach before rowing to the scenario to arrive off the showground near the fair ground at precisely 1550 hours for a bit of role play before rowing back round to the Ferrypoint and loading returning to Langstone for about 1800 Things are progressing with regards to this event and I will give a full update this evening after a final site visit. In short I have had interest from the following and have taken the liberty of allocating spaces on board vessels Jenny.......................................Shearwater Dawn.......................................Galley Cheryl.......................................beach crew Ron..........................................beach crew Sue M.......................................Shearwater Richard.....................................Galley (Captain) Mark........................................ Beach Crew need to be away by 4.30pm Frances.....................................Beach Crew need to be away by 4.30pm June.........................................Galley Barry........................................Galley Steve W....................................Shearwater Marilyn......................................Galley Chris P......................................Tow Galley - Row Shearwater? Mike G......................................Tow Shearwater, compere and beachmaster for Galley/Gig to liase with control Nigel.........................................Offer to Tow to deliver and collect not available to row needs to be elsewhere Dress code is light suitable clothes from the 1860s with a cutters option for the return We therefore need the following Beachmaster/commentator/tower Mike G Beach crew in cutters garb to take support Mike take photos and hand out leaflets from 1530 - 1600 before meeting up to return to Langstone Crews for two boats one Gig one Galley I will sort the finer points out once we have final numbers but know that some are more at home in a galley and will allocate accordingly. Can I please have volunteers for the Beach and promotional bits first? Equally if you cannot make it for any reason or indeed if there is anyone else who would like to be involved in some way please post ASAP Gig rower or two required please. Cheers Tim |

Hi Tim
Have you got any idea what you want us to wear 1860's? I was thinking black cut off trousers, white shirts and maybe a cap? |

Tim, Cheryl and I would like to be on the beach crew to take photos and distribute leaflets please. Cheers ~ Ron and Cheryl

Cloths - Google or other search engines for 1860's clothing would suggest either high waisted ruffled frocks or indeed cloth caps and whiskers!
Ron and Cheryl, Thankyou for your offer |

I'd verbally offered to help (not on the nabble), but now have conflicting other duties! I can still, however, assist up until noon, and after 5-15pm, so could e.g. tow up a boat to the front and then later tow it back.
May I remind folks that this launching, or even close approach to the shoreline, at the seafront is a very different kettle of fish to our normal placid Langstone affair ! Launching in projected (Ferryboat) area is good idea. The East Winner will be fairly well covered on a tide height of 4.2 to 4.5 metres (when the demo is on), but with morning sun, cloudy afternoon, and a prevailing SW wind it is likely to be quite exciting (=dangerous) on the East Winner. Also, at demo time with 4,2 metres plus, the increased beach slope (higher up the beach) will make landing / launching from the demo site difficult. I suggest that, unless it is a dead-calm day, that an anchor line is set a good 50 metres from shore. That way the boat can use the line to control its approach (or departure) to shore in a safe manner. |
Nigel, thanks. I am not proposing we put the boats on beach at all. It's just shingle at high tide and very damaging to the boats. We will come and go!! On 17 Jun 2015 00:11, "Nigel. [via Langstone Cutters RC]" <[hidden email]> wrote:
