Hayling row update and provisional teams

Many thanks all for signing up. Terrific interest.

Whilst we have 24 so far expressing interest we believe it best for this first trip to limit ourselves to 3 boats being the 2 Claydons and the Celtic.

 There are some key points we need to get through in particular the entrance to Portsmouth harbour and shepherding us all through safely is of prime importance.  That plus the galleys being lower in the water and hence in the likely choppy seas both in the Solent and at the harbour entrance makes them less viable this time.

We will be doing this trip very much as a team, keeping all 3 boats close together to ensure we all get around safely.

Bad news all. I have just had another recce of the Hilsea Channel to check for obstructions etc during low tide and they have erected a temporary barrier across the channel near the railway bridge.

I am trying to contact the relevant people to understand if it will be there next week but nobody around at the moment.

Will keep you informed. Grrrrrr.

So team i am afraid it is sad news but I have walked the hillsea channel and spoken to some people and the repairs to the railway bridge have over run and will not be clear till late summer (probably means December then!!)

The repairs include a block across the channel making it impassable.  

So we need to postpone and rearrange as soon as it is clear.

We could change Friday to a row Hayling island day as a training row. Forecast for the wind is OK with a northerly and 6 knot wind so we will be sheltered as we go along the sea front.

Any takers please? Happy to take more boats if others want to join.
