Havant Borough Council have put together a series of events in order to get people over 50, who are inactive, to get active.
Its called Get up and Go... and the one of the elements is rowing in fixed seat coastal boats. I have been helping them design the programme which will start an Open Day at Northney Marina on the 28th July running from 10am to 4pm; based at Unit 3 and using the St Ayles Skiffs operating from the pontoon. The idea is to encourage people who are inactive, and have never rowed before, to have a go... explore the harbour and get socially interactive. They will then be encouraged to then sign up for a 6 week Learn to Row course in a number of evenings over August/September. HBC are subsidising these courses. The idea is they will then feel happy to join the Langstone Cutters Rowing Club. Do you know of someone who might benefit? Is anyone willing to give an hour or 2 on the 28th July to help out advise, row and guide these candidates? If so, post here or email me at mike@langstonerowing.co.uk |

Hi Mike
I am up in Suffolk over the weekend, but have added this event to the rowing diary. Needless to say, any and all support, input, involvement and assistance would be greatly appreciated. Hope all to order. Best Andy |

Mike,
Do you have any posters or leaflets about this event that I could put up in the Hayling Community Centre. I think it might spread the word a bit. Sue |

Hi Mike
I put one of the posters up in the British Legion ,hopefully some will be tempted by a free first row . Please let me know when & where you would like me to turn up on Saturday James |
..So we have Bobby Clayton,Sue Loveridge; James Griffin; Shanhaz Schaeper (10-11); plus Linda Medlow; Ricard Harrison and me - Also HBC will be there to see how it goes. Is it possible to meet on Friday evening for a time at 6-7pm in order to move the top boat off the trailer that would be a help. Then if we all meet at around 09.00 to 09.30 on Saturday to launch a boat and get ready... we will see how get on... I have a candidate already signed-up - Joan Saywood - ... however the invite does not require a time to be booked... so we are just dependent on people rocking up... we can chat to them about coastal rowing and other things easily enough; provide tea and coffee - then walk them down to the boat on the pontoon... by definition these are peole who do bnot excercise much - so need to be gentle... If needed we can get out a second boat... The morning row led by Christine will swing by as well ... Cheers, Mike Gilbert
