Introduction to Rowing - Sunday 7th Nov at 11:30 Help Needed

Mark Taylor
Interested and prospective new members will be coming along to see what they think of rowing with LCRC.
It is not too late to invite friends and contacts, but so far, we have listed below those who might come along. Also listed are those experienced rowers who have signed up in a previous post.

Time of event is to start at 11:30 for a 13:00 high tide at 5.0 metres. So lots of water to play in which would be useful if we need to stay within the lee of langstone if it gets a bit blowy from the prevailing direction. Current weather forcast for Sunday is Sunny, F3 W/NW, cool. MIght be best to advise visitors to wear wellies and warm clothes rather than shorts/wet shoes in case there is a bit of standing around between rows.

Please be aware that Sue loveridge has advised the gig club will be holding a regatta on the same day,  so we will keep clear of new cut and the northney slip.

Prospective/interested rowers
Judi Darley (mark)
Sarah Widgery (Liz W)
Andrew Widgery (LizW)
Claire Stokes (Liz W)
Hilary (Sue L)
Pady Davis (wendy)
Alison (Frances)
Elaine (Frances)
Jackie Rea (Mark)
Dave Rea (Mark)
Also noted that Wendy would like to try sculling a Teifi

Helpers
John P
Liz W
Ron
Cheryl

Liz H

Mark

Any more experienced rowers who would like to sign up and help would be most welcome.

I’d like to come along to help and also give sculling another go!
I’m still waiting to hear back from a couple of people who may be interested.
Thanks

Hi Mark (especially) and all,
The tides that are referred to in the top post are predicted to risk a partial flooding of the Ship Inn car park, and some of the High Street at Langstone (see official flood alert below***). It might be a good idea to warn anyone arriving by car that they should park accordingly (i.e. The higher ground in the Ship car park).
***
Sunday afternoon's tide at 12:45 on 07/11/2021 is higher than normal due to unsettled weather with strong North Westerly Force 5 winds. The weather increases tide table values by 0.17 m. The total forecast tide is 5.27 metres Chart Datum (2.54 mAOD) at Portsmouth. For 1 hour either side of high water, levels will be high at South Street and Queen Street Emsworth. The Ship Inn car park at Langstone will flood. Water will flow into the bottom third of Langstone High Street, although flood depths in the road will be relatively shallow
***

As there will be a demand for sculling help on Sunday I intend to turn up to assist, - but had not committed to do so yet as there may be a covid risk which I shall act on if necessary.
PLEASE (all) don't jump to false assumptions and exclude me, un-necessarily, from club activity for being open (about covid risks) like the last time !

Nigel,  I don't know what your comments are about covid.  If you have been or think you have been in contact with someone with covid,  then please stay away.  Do not put people at risk.  No one is excluding you.  This is just sensible safe ways of behaving.  There are enough people around to help out with sculling.
