I really enjoyed today's row. Geoff's iPad recorded a distance of 14.3nm, (16.5 miles) and a top speed of 6.5kn.

For the benefit of future planning could rough timing be posted please relative to HW on a 4.5 which is what my tide tables think it was ? so that others can follow the same path , knowing in particular when they need to  set off again from Portchester to get back in time for the tide.

The timing doesn't depend on the tide height - you can back into the Mill up to about 2.5 hours after high tide (at the latest) whatever the height. So the way you calculate the time you need to set off from Portchester is to take the time you expect to row 8 miles and subtract that from 2.5hr after HW.
