Pity! I was thinking (slowly!) about signing up as it would have been a great chance to spot the “Space Station” [and a few dozen other micro satellites, vital to Ukraine] going overhead in a night sky that is predicted to be fairly clear of clouds etc.
As it is, I’ll have to make do with popping outside at about 9pm to see if I can see anything through the glare of the A27 lights…..
The Station is passing above Portsmouth on Sep 21, 2026, 21:04 BST!
Above the horizon 4 min
Max height of 51°
Appears: 5° WNW
Disappears: 51° SSW
To explore more and track the station via augmented reality, download the app at:
https://onelink.to/nasa-sts-appA good starting point is to Look NW towards the Great Bear.
It will be easier to see, for longer, tomorrow at ca 8pm, but it may be cloudy.
Look toward Cassiopeia (the “W” the other side of the pole star to the great bear) for micro satellites approaching from the west. They will “extinguish” as they get near Cassiopeia as they go into the earth’s shadow.
Nice try Chris, - I wish I had signed up earlier and then perhaps some other bold folk might have joined us!!!
