Sallyport maintenance - update and vote

Liz Walmsley
Dear members,

You should all have received an email from me on Fri 18th Sep explaining the need for essential repairs and maintenance to Sallyport if not please see the link below:

Chair letter to members re Sallyport dated 18 Sep 25

Since then, we have identified a recently available temporary facility at Itchenor and we think we have a potential solution which will enable us to get the repair work completed on Sallyport by Andrew Oliver and then complete the internal sanding and varnishing work ourselves. This will reduce the cost and may also provide an opportunity to work on our other boats.  It will also emphasise our club ethos of community and self-help which has always been so important for our membership club.

The cost of the essential repairs and maintenance work/painting on the hull by Andrew would be @£3500 and could be completed in the first two weeks of November. Below is a list of what is included in this.
Repair and refasten forward deck trims
Go through all copper fastenings and replace where required
Re fasten along garboard and hood ends where required
General repairs throughout
Stem and keel band repairs
Sand hull, remove sealants, prime, reseal, undercoat and topcoat

If we then complete the interior varnishing ourselves this would save @£3140 less the cost for rental of the facility which is @£990 for a month and any materials. We would use any spare capacity during the month to work on our other boats too.  We would hope to progress with this work in November and need to get our bookings in as soon as possible.

For this to be successful we will require lots of willing volunteers from our membership to assist with rubbing down, varnishing and other tasks as required.
All our members views are important so we are now asking you to decide on how you wish us to proceed and encourage you all to vote using the voting form at the link below.  We do ask that you consider if you are willing and able to assist with this work when deciding on how you wish us to proceed. We are making this an anonymous vote but please only vote once and no later than Friday 10 October.

This post was updated on .
This is only 12 mins from Dell Quay and I'm sure we can muster assistance from DQ rowers at the muddy end of the harbour if you need to unload boats etc...not sure whether our artisan skills are up to Cutters standards ! But happy to help with whatever required. Good luck at HOTO. RB

I think this is a great idea and we should definitely take it up (thank you to Liz, Rachel, Tim and all involved who came up with it and looked into it properly)
I’m totally free at the beginning of November for a couple of weeks, and if these dates fit the necessity, then please put my name down to volunteer and help out wherever is needed.
