Dear Members,
Most of you will already know about the club rescuing a Solent Galley from the Isle of Wight. If not here is the link to the original post which has some great pictures. http://langstone-cutters-rc.1095392.n5.nabble.com/The-Club-s-new-project-Solent-galley-Fancy-That-arrives-td19706.html#a19729 A group of us from the committee have been working towards applying for Heritage Lottery funding for the restoration project. Mike Gilbert has taken the lead on this and has had an encouraging response to his preliminary enquiry about the likelihood of getting a grant. The important thing about a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund is that your project must involve people from the wider community and be well explained to the public in a way which increases awareness and interest in our heritage. We have been encouraged to strengthen this part of our bid and include the costs of extra activities in it. To that end we are keen to know if there are members who would be interested in helping in the following areas ... Website Could you help with a website to track the refit and maintain the story and history of the boat? Research We need to dig into the history of 'Fancy That' and the other Solent Galleys. This is likely to involve making enquiries at the local clubs we know once owned them and finding pictures to build a gallery of Solent Galleys. If you have an interest in Martime heritage or are prepared to learn we need you! Display We need to create a portable display explaining what the project is all about. Initially we would set this up next to the restoration project so that passers-by can see what is going on, and later it would be used in Road Shows. If you have any previous experience or are just happy to have a go this one will be needed early on. Road Show Once the restoration is complete we will be planning a Road Show of events to explain the Heritage project and show 'Fancy That' to clubs, schools and other groups in our area. We will need speakers and helpers for these events. Refit While the expert refit will be done by a boat builder, the preparation and final finish will be done by the club. If you are keen to be involved in helping to turn 'Fancy That' into a beautiful new Solent Galley by sanding and varnishing guided by experienced woodworkers then please sign up for this one. We also have plans to restage a historic Galley race and film it as part of the publicity drive. This promises to be an exciting event next year and there will be more about it nearer the time. Please post below if you are interested and let me know which activities you think you can help with. We really need to be able to show that we have sufficient people involved before we can submit the bid. Thank you! Rachel |

I’m in. Can help with displays and presentation content with my background in graphics and event production. Also would be very happy to get involved with making a video - video production is part of what my business does. Also may be able to have some input into website.

Very interested in seeing this progress to a result we can all be proud of. To that end I'll probably be most use on the refurb, but am happy to contribute elsewhere as required.
