We have been kindly invited to take part in The Oxford and Cambridge University Boat Race Festival of Rowing 2020 on Sunday 29th March.
We will be part of the flotilla of traditional rowed/paddled craft to escort the Queen’s Shallop "Jubilant" over the four-mile Oxford Cambridge Boat Race course in advance of the actual Boat Race.
This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of this historic event and to get a feel for the atmosphere. Before the flotilla starts, there might be the opportunity to walk across Putney Bridge to the boat clubs where the Oxford and Cambridge crews are based and see if you can spot any BBC pundits or famous rowers.
Costs for this will be in the region of £20 to cover the entry fee and costs of transporting the boats.
I have hopefully attached a couple of PDFs that provide further details and a timetable for the day. It will probably be a long day as we will need to get to London and launch the boats in advance of 10:30. There will be a chance for a little row down the Thames beforehand as we will need to launch away from the ULBC clubhouse.
Depending on interest, we will look to take one or both Solent Galleys. Ideally we will take both boats as we will need sufficient personnel to assist with launching and recovery of the boats.
Please sign up if you are interested in taking part.
If you would be happy to tow, please indicate that when you sign up.
Hopefully, some attachments have been added to the post with additional information on the event, including a timetable. Any questions, please ask. Dee has been part of this event multiple times and I am sure would be happy to answer any questions too.
