Trafalgar Night - FINAL UPDATES

Matt O’Neill
This post was updated on .
Dear all,

This is just a quick (and final) update on procedures for Trafalgar Night this Wednesday coming (25th).

Dinner is being served at 19:30, so please all arrive in plenty of time to get your first drinks at the bar, mingle and have a chance to listen to some welcoming acoustic shanty music.
Most people are aiming to arrive at around 19:00.
For those wishing to book taxis for the evening pick up, the pub require us to be finished upstairs around 22:30, but the downstairs bar will still be open as normal until 23:00, for any stragglers.

I’ve been made aware of various WhatsApp groups happening, mainly regarding dress code. My understanding is that almost everybody is dressing up smart, with some ladies coming in evening dresses and even a couple of men coming in traditional black tie. I will totally leave it up to you all, but order of the day is definitely smart please.

The shanty band are the Selsey Shantymen and on the night will be collecting for two local charities they support a lot. As we have them on a very good deal for the evening, I think it’s only right that we all delve deep into our pockets for their collection pots, so please bring a little cash. Their chosen charities are: Selsey RNLI Life Boat Station, and Selsey First Responders. I’m sure you’ll all agree that both are great causes, and ones we may all require in the future.
On the same note, there is no service charge on the bill, so we will be having a whip round for staff tips towards the end of the evening.

I’ve been asked the address of the pub for taxis and Sat Nav etc. For those of you who don’t know, the full address is: The Ship Inn, Langstone Road, Langstone, Havant. PO9 1RD.

Lastly, the pub have asked if they can take some photos to use for publicity on their website. We have agreed this is fine as we are looking to work closely with the pub in the future, but please shout on the night if you do not wish to be seen in any of the photos, for whatever reason.

The following web page was passed onto me this morning, with some interesting news regarding the Battle of Trafalgar and the Victory, so thought it may be of historical interest to you all:

Other than that, all is in hand. And I really look forward to seeing you all for what should hopefully be a great night.
