The trailer failed to connect to my towbar again.
Is there anyone that could help check it please.

Can I just check what you mean please.  From the picture it appears that you cannot close the lock securely.  Is that correct?

Regards

Hi Peter
Yes the hitch won't drop fully onto the ball

Hi Jonathan
Are there different sizes of towbar balls?
The van is 2008. When would they have changed to metric?

Thanks for the answers
Pete

Am somewhat restricted at moment, but will actively help asap. In the meantime:-
There are different ball hitch sizes, but for our purposes you can assume all are the same standard size.
From your pic it looks as if you have not fully disengaged the hitch lock jaws. Usually this is because the unhitching handle lock ( or pin on some) has not been fully disengaged ( lifted), and so the safety mechanism stops the ball hitch locking jaw from opening.
This is what is stopping your ball hitch from dropping down over the ball.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FOCE THIS JAW OPEN USING YOUR  FINGERS. YOU WILL LOSE YOUR FINGER. IT IS A STRONGLY SPRUNG JAW!!!
If the hitch handle lock is not properly open then attempting to force the ball into the hitch lock will not succeed and may well jam the system. When properly open the system should accept the ball positively and with ease.

Maybe I can come down sometime when you are on site and give you a mini “ masterclass” in trailer tech?
Let me know a time and I’ll try and fit it in between hospital appointments!

Pete, when problem first reported, I took the ball off my car as I could not move trailer to car alone and made two videos. First shows what Nigel was saying I think, second shows ball locking in place

Thanks for the videos Michael.
I will have to try to take the ball off of the motorhome and check it.
Perhaps you could let me know if you would be able to meet me there.
I'm pretty free all this week if you can.
Many thanks
Pete

Sadly not only are there different sizes they are not all spherical.   Come have a flat top and others are 'undercut' at bottom where it is mounted.   Best bet is to find out who has a ball hitch that does fit and then compare theirs to yours

Re: Trailer for Galleys

Hi Rachel
It's more likely to be the ball on my towbar.
I'll try to take it off.
The hitch seems to work well.
I'll message Colin.
