Trafalgar Night UPDATE AND MEAL OPTIONS

Matt O’Neill
This post was updated on .
Dear friends,

Just a couple of quick updates regarding Trafalgar night at the Ship Inn Langstone.

Firstly, please may I have your food order BEFORE 17th October (next Tuesday)

Food choices are:

Meat eaters:
Roast beef with all the trimmings
Vegetarians:
Vegan nut roast with all the trimmings
Dessert for all is cheese plate and Port

To keep it simple there are just two options, so please just reply with
“meat x 1/2 , vegetarian x 1/2”

We have the room booked from 7pm onwards, with food being served at 7:30pm. Please arrive in plenty of time to get your first drinks in etc, as we are using the normal bar downstairs and the downstairs of the pub is open as usual and therefore will be busy!!

Plan for the evening is:

19:00 - Arrive and mingle
19:30 - Dinner is served
20:10 (ish) - Speeches and presentations by Colin McPhee and Mike Gilbert
20:30 - Shanties start (short break in the middle)
22:00 - End of evening announced with the National Anthem and Land of Hope and Glory

Dress code is smart, but please feel free to get really dressed up, black tie etc.

When taking seats, please sit amongst people you don’t necessarily know that well, as it’s a chance to meet with people from both clubs. After dinner we will be moving the tables to make room for the band and all to be mingling together.

A request from the pub:
Please can you all car/taxi share where possible, as a portion of the car park will be closed off due to ground works, making parking a premium.

Lastly, for anyone interested in the history of the evening and the dinner, please take a look at this link:

Thanks all, I look forward to receiving your menu choices ASAP please.
And really look forward to seeing you all there, for what I hope will be a great night

Matt

One for the ladies - and anyone identifying as a woman this month.

Although Matt says dress code is smart, a couple of the chaps have said to me everyone will be in jeans and sweaters.  Well, I won't be. There won't be glitter but there will be a frock for my first ever Trafalgar Night. I hope I'm not alone in dressing up a tad in honour of  Matt's detailed planning?

That’s a really nice posting, and thank you for that Pam.

Far be it from me to tell anyone what to wear, however this has always been regarded as a fairly formal evening and hence there is a “smart” dress code. Most other Trafalgar Nights I’ve been invited to and that are taking part in the 3 harbours area and clubs this week, are all black tie. But I certainly wasn’t going down that route.

Having spoken to a few of them, I know the ladies of CRAC are very much looking forward to “any excuse to dress up”, and are already excitedly chatting on a WhatsApp group regarding outfits.

As I said, I’m certainly not telling anyone what to wear and just want everyone to be comfortable and have a fun night. That said, I myself, definitely won’t be joining the jeans and jumper brigade…
